This surgical procedure involves several stages, from consultation to crown placement, ensuring a seamless tooth replacement experience.
Consultation and Planning »

Initially, a consultation is essential to discuss the feasibility of an implant. Alternative options like bridges or dentures are considered if an implant isn’t suitable due to inadequate bone structure. In aesthetic areas, such as the front teeth, temporary solutions like dentures may be used during the implant healing process.

Preparation for Surgery »

Pre-surgical preparation involves obtaining a Cone Beam CT scan, which is usually subsidised by Medicare. This scan is crucial for assessing bone structure and planning the implant placement. You will be given information sheets on post-surgical care, including pain management, swelling control, and dietary adjustments.

The Procedure »

The surgery starts with tooth extraction if there is a damaged tooth or tooth root remaining, sometimes accompanied by bone grafting to enhance bone structure. The implant site is then prepared, and the implant is placed into a specific hole in the jawbone. Post-implantation, the site is either left to heal with a temporary denture in place or covered with a healing cap.

Healing and Crown Placement »

After three to four months of healing, the implant is tested for stability. A mould is then taken for the crown, which is placed two weeks later, completing the process.

Dr Vincent Wan can now do both the surgical phase and prosthetic phase of treatment. Being able to have both phases taken care of at our practice is particularly convenient for patients as we can have it all done in-house. It’s also less expensive than having treatment performed by a specialist. If a particular case is complex, however, we still use a specialist.
