Custom Dental Bridges

Just White Dental Missing Tooth Options

Dental Bridges West RydeLosing a tooth to an infection or accident can leave a long-standing impact on the function and appearance of your smile. A lost tooth can cause trouble eating and feelings of embarrassment about the way you look. Clearly, the role that a single tooth plays is invaluable.

Fortunately, there are custom restorative options like dental bridges to help. A bridge spans between two healthy teeth (or supporting dental implants) to suspend a ceramic “tooth” between them, filling in the open space. Your supported restoration blends in with the neighbouring teeth, filling in the open space so that you can smile or enjoy your favourite foods.

Bridges are an excellent alternative to removable partial dentures and ideal when dental implants aren’t an option.

What to Expect

Getting a dental bridge is usually a two-visit process that is similar to crown treatments. Because the bridge is anchored on top of two teeth, they must be prepared in a similar manner as if they were being crowned. First, they are numbed and then reshaped, allowing for a restoration to fit over them. An impression is made for the lab and a temporary restoration placed over your teeth to minimise sensitivity.

In about two weeks, your permanent ceramic bridge will be ready to bond into place. The temporary is removed, and a long-term bonding agent is applied to keep the bridge secured over your supporting teeth.

Caring for Your Dental Bridge

It’s important to clean your bridge thoroughly each day so that no infections (such as periodontal disease or recurring tooth decay) affect the teeth supporting it. Floss under the bridge and around each tooth daily or use a water flosser to access hard-to-reach areas.
