What to Expect

Getting a dental crown requires only two appointments. The first visit is to remove the damaged tooth structure and prepare the remaining tooth for a crown to fit over it. After the digital scan is taken, we place a temporary crown to minimise any sensitivity. About two weeks later, the permanent crown is cemented into place.

Can a crowned tooth get a cavity?

It’s not possible to get a cavity in the crown itself. However, a cavity can develop in the tooth your crown is attached to. Remember to keep it clean and visit your dentist every 6 months.

What happens if my crown falls out or breaks?

If your dental crown falls out or breaks the underlying tooth becomes at risk, but the crown can be often be re-cemented or replaced. Sensitive parts of the tooth will be exposed if the dental crown falls out or breaks.
