Porcelain Veneers in Randwick

Veneers are a cosmetic dentistry solution for masking teeth that appear discoloured, misaligned or misshaped. Instead of capping the entire tooth structure with a crown, veneers are bonded to the visible side of the teeth in your smile zone, thus changing the appearance of your smile.

The number of veneers you need will depend on how many teeth show when you’re laughing or smiling. For most people, it’s somewhere around 2-8 upper teeth. Others may require as many as ten veneers for an ideal result.

You may want to consider whitening your teeth beforehand so that any visible areas adjacent to where you’re getting veneers will be as bright as possible against your refreshed smile.

What’s Involved in Getting Veneers?

Getting dental veneers usually involves 2 appointments. During the first consultation is necessary for you to share your goals and likes or dislikes about your smile. On that first visit, you will be provided with a detailed treatment plan and associated fees and payment options.

To start treatment, your dentist will schedule a time to prepare the teeth by buffing away a thin layer of enamel and then taking a digital scan. With this state-of-the-art technology, no gooey impressions are involved. In some cases, temporary veneers may be bonded over the smile if required. On the second visit, the porcelain veneers will be bonded into place. You will have a completely new smile that has been designed for your personal preference.

Maintenance & Care

It’s essential that you care for your veneers to help them last as long as possible. Start by brushing and flossing around each one daily. Keep the floss taut against the side of your tooth, gently rubbing it up and down around the contours as well as just under the gumlines. Flossing will not pull off a sound veneer. If you feel any catching or the floss is starting to shred, slide it through instead of pulling it down and see us for an exam.

Composite veneers will last 4-7 years and over this time may need some maintenance or touch-ups. It is important to avoid such habits as fingernail biting, chewing on pens, or other hard food.

We recommend that each of our cosmetic dentistry patients invest in a protective mouthguard to wear while they sleep at night. This appliance limits the risk of chipped or worn porcelain, especially if you have a habit of clenching and grinding your teeth (bruxism.) Veneers can last for several years at a time, but if one is damaged, it will need to be replaced entirely.

Price of Veneers

The price for porcelain veneers per tooth is $2,394. For composite veneers, the cost is $945 per tooth. If you have a Health Fund, you can contact them to inquire in advance about the rebate amount for the item number/s associated with your chosen treatment. It would typically be one of the following item numbers: 556 (for porcelain veneers) or 526 (for composite veneers.)
