What You Can Expect

As a new, current or returning patient you can expect a comprehensive exam, cleaning, digital x-rays (if needed), and an oral cancer screening.

Our routine dental exams include a visual inspection of each tooth surface to pinpoint new areas of decay and to inspect teeth that may have had prior restorations.

Your teeth and gums will be thoroughly cleaned to remove plaque buildup, tartar, and stains. Getting your teeth cleaned twice a year helps to prevent periodontal (gum) disease that can cause significant dental problems, including loss of teeth, if left undetected and untreated. You may need a simple cleaning, periodontal maintenance, or scaling and root planing.

We may take X-rays to check the side surfaces of your teeth, the area beneath the gums and other spots that are not visible. X-rays are typically taken according to a schedule and not at every appointment. We feature digital X-radiographs and have a Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) scanner and panoramic X-ray on-site.

Quick and painless, an oral cancer screening is essential for early diagnosis and prevention. Your face, lips, neck, inside of the nose and oral cavity all will be inspected as part of an oral cancer screening. Your dentist will look for asymmetrical areas, swollen spots, bumps, patches of color, ulcerations or other irregularities.

We also can provide the following:

  • Fluoride treatments – Fluoride treatments take only a few minutes and are painless, safe and effective. Your dentist simply paints the fluoride onto your smile and allows it to dry. Fluoride can fortify teeth, encourage remineralization and reverse early signs of tooth decay.
  • Sealants – A sealant is composed of a transparent, film-like material that the dentist applies to the surface of back teeth. This material quickly adheres to the grooves and ridges imbedded in the chewing surfaces of the teeth. Sealants create a protective barrier that keeps decay-producing bacteria away from tooth surfaces.
  • Sports mouthguards – If your child plays a contact sport, mouthguards are essential. They help to prevent chipped, broken and knocked-out teeth. We can craft custom-fitted mouthguards that safeguard your child’s lips, tongue and face.
  • Occlusal guards – If you grind or clench your teeth in your sleep, an occlusal guard can protect your teeth.
